Our lead scientist and company founder is Bing L. Wong, Ph.D.

When Dr. Wong was a post-doc at the New England Enzyme Center at Tufts University (MA) in 1974, he became interested in ways to help people metabolize alcohol better.

At the time, he was able to isolate alcohol dehydrogenase from cow liver. The principal investigator of the lab wanted to proceed in a different direction, and Dr. Wong was forced to shelve his project.

Decades later, after a successful career in biomedical engineering in Boston and later in Hong Kong, Dr. Wong finally resurrected his idea in 2010.

With the help of one of his students, Dr. Wong perfected the process to extract and maintain the enzymatic activity of not one, but two enzymes, that are critical in metabolizing alcohol and acetaldehyde.

His discovery led to a US patent detailing the ideal ratio of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) needed to keep acetaldehyde from building up in the body.

Since acetaldehyde is the toxic by-product leading to the ill effects of drinking, Dr. Wong's product BuzzClear® paved the way to better mornings after drinking.
